چکیده

A technique for reconstructing a class of quadric surfaces from 3D data is presented. The technique is driven by a linear least-squaresbased fitting mechanism. Previously, such fitting was restricted to recovery of central quadrics; here, extension of that basic mechanism to allow recovery of one commonly-occurring class of non-central quadric, the elliptic paraboloids, is described. The extension uses an indirect solution approach that involves introducing a variable to the basic mechanism that is a function of a quadric surface invariant. Results from fitting real and synthetic data are also exhibited. 2006 Pattern Recognition Society. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Fitting conic sections to measured data in 3 - space

We consider the problem of fitting given data in 3-space by rotated plane conic sections in the least squares sense. For circles this was done in [4]. For ellipses we will use some details from [2]. Regarding hyperbolas there is a problem using the two branches. However we can follow [2]. Also for parabolas considered for plane data in [1] we can extend the solution method to spatial data. In a...

PEDOMODELS FITTING WITH FUZZY LEAST SQUARES REGRESSION

Pedomodels have become a popular topic in soil science and environmentalresearch. They are predictive functions of certain soil properties based on other easily orcheaply measured properties. The common method for fitting pedomodels is to use classicalregression analysis, based on the assumptions of data crispness and deterministic relationsamong variables. In modeling natural systems such as s...

Determination of the best-fitting reference orbit for a LEO satellite using the Lagrange coefficients

Linearization of the nonlinear equations and iterative solution is the most well-known scheme in many engineering problems. For geodetic applications of the LEO satellites, e.g. the Earth’s gravity field recovery, one needs to provide an initial guess of the satellite location or the so-called reference orbit. Numerical integration can be utilized for generating the reference orbit if a satelli...

Automated T2* Estimation with Complex-Signal Based Weighted Least Squares Exponential Fitting

Figure 3: Fitting of representative liver voxels from the two techniques in Patient 2 of Fig. 1. T2*-IDEAL, based on complex data and weighted least squares, accurately captures the T2* decay, whereas the multi-echo exponential fitting demonstrates over-estimation of the T2*. Figure 1: representative results from two patients. Water and fat images from the T2*-IDEAL technique are shown in addit...

Geometric Interpretation and Precision Analysis of Algebraic Ellipse Fitting Using Least Squares Method

This paper presents a new approach for precision estimation for algebraic ellipse fitting based on combined least squares method. Our approach is based on coordinate description of the ellipse geometry to determine the error distances of the fitting method. Since it is an effective fitting algorithm the well-known Direct Ellipse Fitting method was selected as an algebraic method for precision e...
